125th Anniversary Events
June 29th - July 4th 2008
Sunday, June 29
125th Grand Reception –
2:00 to 4:00 p.m.
The week’s events will kick off with
the “125th Grand Reception” This
event will be held on the water's
edge with entertainment by the Matt
Fogg Trio. Passed hors d’oeuvres,
complimentary champagne and
sparkling water will be served, and
a cash bar will be available. The
Nonantum Resort’s owners will arrive
by horse and carriage, escorted in
by the bagpipers.
Monday, June 30 through
Thursday, July 3
Free Popcorn –
Free Popcorn for all will be served
from 11:00 to 4:00 p.m. The ‘Ol
Fashion Popcorn Cart will be on
Ocean Avenue in front of the
Carriage House with free popcorn to
guests, tourists and locals served
by Nonantum staff dressed in
clothing from the 1880’s.
Tuesday, July
1st
“A
Snapshot in Time” will be
held on Tuesday, July 1st from 1:00
to 3:00 p.m. Tracy Baetz, Executive
Director of the Brick Store Museum,
will be sharing stories about the
history of the Kennebunks during the
1880’s; the dawn of the vacation era
at the Nonantum’s water’s edge. This
event is FREE and open to the
public. Light refreshments will be
served.
Wednesday, July 2
“Native American Day” will
take place from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. A
variety of Native American
demonstrations will take place at
the Nonantum Resort’s water’s edge
including wicker baskets,
demonstrating on a weaving loom, and
basket weaving. Native American
jewelry and crafts will be
demonstrated and displayed. For
entertainment, authentic drumming,
dancing, songs and storytelling will
round off the afternoon. Native
American Day is hosted by Jason
Brown, David Schultz and “Singing
Stone” Cheryl Dixon. This event is
FREE and open to the public. Light
refreshments will be served.
Nonantum Cup 125th
Anniversary Canoe Race
The “Nonantum Cup 125th Anniversary
Charity Canoe Race” will be held
July 2nd from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m.
Local businesses will pay a fee of
$125.00 per canoe to enter. The
winner will donate the total money
to the charity of their choice.
Trophies will be awarded to the top
3 winners. Launching is at the
Nonantum Marina. The race starts at 6:00 p.m. Race
participants should arrive with
canoes by 5pm.
Thursday July 3rd
Captain Richard Woodman of the
Eleanor Schooner will be giving a
fascinating talk from 9:30-10:30
a.m. on ship building in the late
1800’s on the Kennebunk River. He
will conduct a demonstration,
provide some original artifacts and
have a question and answer period at
the end. This event is FREE and open
to the public. Light refreshments
will be served.
Friday, July 4, 2008
Free Snowcones will
be served on Friday, July 4th, from
11:00 to 4:00p.m.
4th of July Official 125th
Anniversary Celebration
at
our water’s edge. 6:00 to 9:30 p.m.
All American BBQ – 6:00 to 7:45 p.m.
followed by dessert
(see menu and
prices)
Casco Bay Concert Band
– starts at 7:30 p.m. Viewing at our
water’s edge for fireworks starting
at 9:00 p.m. Snow cone machine on
site throughout the day and evening.
